The Hut opened at its new premises on October 6, 2012

A youth club finally opened its doors to its new home after two years of setbacks including arson and eviction.

The Hut, run by Braintree Youth Project Charity, officially opened its new Leather Lane site on October 6.

The club, which was originally based at The Hut in Station Approach, Braintree, began the hunt for a new home in 2010. Plans to move the Pizza Place, in Bocking End, were thwarted after a blaze gutted the building, and other possibilities also proved impossible. Throughout the search it held sessions in temporary venues such as the Carousel Centre and the Baptist Church.

Previous centre manager Cherie Prior said: “Every week we get 50 to 100 young people dropping in for their Friday night hot chocolate and toast, and to hang out in a safe and warm environment, which will continue in our new home.
